Welcome!
With three runways, the longest 5,050' x
100', the St. Thomas airport offers an uncongested training environment.
Facilities
at the St. Thomas Municipal Airport are shared by recreational pilots and
commercial aviation operators. The airport is owned and operated by the
Corporation of the City of St. Thomas which is continually working to improve
the facilities and services available. In 2001 runway 09/27 was
reconstructed and repaved.
The airport is proud to offer modern terminal facilities and a 5,050 ft. x 100
ft asphalt runway as well as two 2,640 ft. approaches. CYQS has an on site
NDB, is less than 10 nm from the Aylmer VOR and just 15 nm from the London VOR
facilitating instrument training.
History
CYQS was
established in 1941 as an air training base for the British Commonwealth Air
Training Program. The base was operated by the Department of National Defence
until the late 1940’s as a relief field for Aylmer and Fingal.
The airport was
purchased by the City of St. Thomas in 1970 and has been a critical part of the
municipal infrastructure since. The runway was extended from 3,000 to 5,050 ft
in 1982 and upgraded in 2001.
